Best Laser Level Reviews

Thanks for taking your time to read our reviews on the best laser level UK that are currently available on the United Kingdom marketplace.

Different types of levels and tape measures have been around for many years, and while old style levels are still in use, new technology has many advantages and a laser level or line laser as its also callled, is one of the most accurate. The Laser Distance Meters are also very popular. As a rule of thumb you would use a green laser for outdoor or large area work mainly and red for smaller areas.

These laser levels produce a laser beam line across any surface, in any direction and are totally accurate. Eg If you are hanging a shelf it will make sure that you get it totally level, this is just one simple example of what they are used for. If you run the laser right round a room you would be able to put shelves at the exact same height on different walls for instance.

There is no marking required, no measuring, and the laser beam line will stay perfectly on your surface for as long as you need it. This is the beauty of a line laser. They can be fairly expensive, but for me they are an essential tool, even for basic DIY. You are assured of a level job every time, especially when a standard level isn't long enough.

Just below you will see our top 5 list of laser levels. However, we also know you are busy, so if you don't have time to read our full review, we would highly recommend the Bosch Professional cross line laser GCL 2-15

  • Horizontal and vertical laser beam lines and two centred plumb points with optimal visibility
  • Flexible use options thanks to a rotating RM 1 Professional multifunctional mount

This rotary laser Bosch model is quite expensive when you compare it to the Hychika model that we have below. Although they can basically do the same job, this model is aimed at the professionals who will be using it every day. It is fully rotating, self levelling, marks both axis, has excellent accuracy etc etc but main difference is the build quality. This unit is built for daily use and is made to last, even with the rough and tumble of a building site.

I loved this unit. It's very affordable compared to the Bosch model, is still a rotary laser, and it has everything I need for any DIY project around the house. That's really what it is built for and is ideal for occassional use when you need a level. It works perfectly and will make any job just that bit easier. If you have a big building project or are intending to use a level every day then spend the extra money and get the Bosch. It will be worth it.

  • Projects one 360° horizontal line and one 130° large fan angle vertical laser line.

  • Working range can be extended up to 196Ft

  • Strong magnetic pivoting base

Huepar have made this simple but powerful green laser level that works well both indoors and outdoors. It is an extremely accurate laser level that is easily set up and can mount on most surfaces.

Its made from rubberised plastic, which is very hard wearing and the unit is fairly compact. There is a  locking slide on the front that will control the laser option and that can be adjusted by up to four degrees. The price is excellent for a green laser and its definitely not going to break the bank to get this model if you are going to be doing a lot of outdoor work.

No 4 - HANMATEK Cross Laser Level Summary Review

  • Horizontal line accuracy: ± 2.5mm. Vertical lines Accuracy: ± 2.5mm.Laser Length:15M(Horizontal 10M,Vertical 5M) Self-leveling tilt: 110 degrees.

This is the cheapest model we could find that could still do a reasonable job. Its a big seller, mostly due to the price but actually it is pretty decent for the money. If you just have a one off job or are going to use this on the odd occassion then i expect this unit will be perfectly good for a lot of people. The unit is well made, rugged and waterproof, and would be a handy tool to have in your workshop, for not a lot of money. Not for the everyday user though.

Types of Laser Levels

Line Laser Level

Probably the most common of the laser levels is a line laser. It will project a vertical or horizontal line onto any surface you are working on. You can have a 360 degree projection and a forward projection laser measure.

For instance a 360 degree would give you a level on all four walls of a room that you are working in. Very handy indeed! You can imagine how many applications this has.

Dot Lasers

This is something that I haven't used very often and I don't see much point in it if you have a line type laser already. It will cast a dot of light on the targeting surface and is mostly used by plumbers and electricians to make sure pipes and conduits are plumb.

They are a bit cheaper than the laser line models and really not as versatile.

Rotary Lasers

Rotary Level Lasers are less common than line lasers but are equally as useful. They project the line in a rotary fashion and are usually on the bigger side. There are two different types: dual-slope and single-slope.

The dual-slope can move a line across both the X and Y axis, and the single-slope just Y axis. These are mainly used for digging Foundations, Grade Work, Masonry, Layout, so mostly outdoor work.

Laser Level Buying Tips

There are a wide range of these tools at many different prices so its important to know what you are looking for. Nearly all the aser levels are battery-powered, so make sure to look out for their operating time. Some of the best laser levels will run for to 20 hours and you should look for one with a rechargeable battery to save you having to keep buying new batteries. Also as you are likely to be working in a building site type environment, dust and splash protection is an important feature for laser levels, make sure yours is IP54 certified

Accuracy Level

Nearly all laser levels have two types of accuracy: self-leveling and preset. I will always choose the self leveling option as they are designed to find their true level and that's much more accurate than your eye or a spirit level will ever be. They are a bit more expensive but its well worth the extra. If you can afford it then make sure the level you pick has a rating of at least +- 3Xm.

Multiple Mounting Methods

To me this is a massive feature and very important. You want to be able to mount your device on different types of surfaces such as rails or walls. maybe a tripod or some sort of stand. Make sure it can be attached mechanically to various surfaces and always get a unit that can be attached magnetically.

Auto Leveling Capability

This is an essential feature as it automatically sets up your tool within its leveling range (generally ± 5*). It means That even if the laser unit isn't level, its line of sight will be. so i will always look for this in any level I would buy.

Laser Colour

You are going to read a lot of opinions on red laser and green beam laser. Technically speaking the green laser beams can provide a lot more power ( up to 250 times more ) so you will find that they tend to be used more for outdoor use. So you can deduce that the red beams are used more for indoor work. Your conditions, or where you are using it will dictate which colour is the best laser measure for you.

For me, I cant really see the need to go 250 times further but if you expect to be doing a lot of outdoor work then going for a green laser beam will make sense and it would be the best laser level for you.

Battery Level

Standard procedure here when you are looking at the battery life. Many of these units will last up to 30 hours on one charge. All you really need is:-

  1. 12 hours of use on one charge
  2. Reasonably quick charge time
  3. Li-ion battery for definite
  4. Battery lifetime ( how many times it can be charged )

High IP Rating

Ingress Protection is the technical name here. Its just a government standard rating for how waterproof, dust proof, shockproof an item is.

It might specify that it is waterproof at a depth of one metre for 30 minute for instance, this will be a specific rating ( that would be IP67 ).

You can go into it in great detail but just get a unit that's waterproof and shockproof and you will be fine.

In conclusion, selecting a good laser level requires careful consideration of several key factors. Firstly, determining the intended use and the specific project requirements is crucial. This helps in identifying the appropriate type of laser level, whether it be a line laser or a rotary laser, and understanding the required accuracy and range.

Secondly, evaluating the features and specifications of various laser levels is essential. Factors such as self-leveling capability, visibility range, accuracy, durability, and battery life should be thoroughly assessed to ensure they align with the project needs.

Additionally, considering the reputation and reliability of the manufacturer or brand is important. Opting for well-known and trusted companies that have a track record of producing high-quality laser levels can enhance the likelihood of making a good choice.

Furthermore, seeking recommendations from professionals or trusted sources and reading customer reviews can provide valuable insights and help in making an informed decision.

Lastly, considering the budget and value for money is essential. While it's important to invest in a laser level that meets the project requirements, it's equally vital to find a balance between cost and quality.
