Thanks for taking your time to read our reviews on the best cordless circular saws that are currently available on the UK market. The advantage of cordless is of course that you never have to worry again about trailing power leads.

Cordless Saw Buying Guide & Tips

Battery Power

Like any cordless tool, it is really only as good as the battery that powers it. When it comes to cordless saws, the battery quality is vital. You need one with lots of power, and one that charges quickly and retains its charge.

For this type of power tool, the most common voltage size is 18 Volts. You won't find many smaller than that and some brands do a 20 Volt option. 18V is the standard though and we wouldn't recommend buying anything else, as the battery will be compatible with other branded cordless tools.

Ah Rating

The Ampere Hour (Ah) rating is very important. These start at 1.0Ah and go up to 5.0Ah. The higher the rating the longer the battery will last. They will also be more expensive to buy. That's a decision you have to make for yourself.

Brand

It is no big surprise to see Dewalt and Makita dominating the highest rated cordless circular saws. They dominate most power tools and are used by people in the trade. If you can afford one, then buy it they will be excellent tools.

The problem is of course the price and they tend to be a bit too expensive for the home owner who only needs to use this type of saw now and again. That is when the Bosch and Ryobi options come into their own. These are still very good saws and ideal for home use.

The lower budget cordless saws from VonHaus and Einhell will do a good job as well. You just don't get the many features, and you don't get the power and durability. They are fine though for occasional use and light work.

You can see that Bosch has come in with a few models in the middle. I am a big fan of this brand as they make great quality tools at a reasonable price. They may not be the VERY top of the range but they are very close. We also have reviews on the full range of Milwaukee circular saws if this is a range you use.

Bevel Cuts

Most people will use a circular saw for straight cutting. However if you want to be able to do mitre joints, bevel joints or compound joints, then just be sure that the brand and model have that feature.

You will not be surprised to find that the high end brands like Makita and Dewalt do have bevel capability and of course you would expect that. However, the cheaper models are catching up and the majority of the circular saws we have reviewed can do angled cuts as well.

You may not think this is important but it is ! You will use this feature over and over again and will curse yourself if you go for a model that doesn't do it.

Bore Size

Normal circular saw blades fit on to the cordless version of these saws. You need to know the bore size (the hole in the centre of the blade) and the actual blade size. It's always a good idea to stick with the same brand as your saw.

This is important if you are buying new discs because there can be different sizes and it's not one size fits all.

Buying and fitting only the correct size of the blade to your saw is essential for your safety

A very quick video review

We have looked over all the video reviews and found this great short presentation on circular saws. It gives you an instant idea of what to expect as well as telling you all the features and spec in and easy to understand format.

I hope you enjoy watching it as I always think its much better to see a tool in action rather than just reading about it or seeing pictures. This guy is particularly good at explaining the features of the sawsand he is well known for demonstrating all kinds of tools. If you are going to connect a vac to one of these machines we don't recommend that you use a home version. It's always best to have a good quality HD shop vacuum.
