Evolution Hulk Compactor Review UK

Thanks for taking your time to read our review of the Evolution Power Tools Hulk Electric Compactor. As you can see from the image above, this is an electric version, that runs off the UK mains electricity supply.

It has a major advantage over it's petrol counterparts as it can be used inside as well as outside because it produces no fumes. It is also very easy to manoeuvre so it's brilliant in restricted areas.

Most buyers bought this instead of renting one as it took the pressure off them and let them do their job at their own pace, instead of rushing to get finished.

Our Online Buyer Rating Summary

This compactor is a good choice for a crusher run, sand, soil and block paving preparation. The reality is that there are not many choices for these, and this Evolution model is by far the biggest seller.

It's totally Plug and go and you will be using it as soon as you get it out of the box.

Easy to Set Up & Use

Most online buyers said this is easy enough to use. It takes a few minutes to set up.

Easy to Move

It is easier than you first might imagine, given the weight and size. Good into corners.

Value for money

Not cheap, but the alternative is a manual rammer or having to pay a hire company.

There is not a great deal of choice when it comes to buying a compactor thats not petrol driven.

I think this is a good investment if you need to buy one rather than hire one. On average one of these will cost about £40 a day to hire.

Only if you plan on using this for a week or more, should you really consider buying one of these.

What Online Buyers Say

Pros

  • The majority of online buyers found this easy to set up and use
  • Many buyers said that this worked out cheaper than having to hire one, and good to own it for the future
  • Buyers had a wide range of uses and included laying paving stones, making paths, creating a car parking area in the garden, improving the driveway etc
  • Buyers liked that it was electric, as that was quieter, had very little vibration and enough weight and power to do the job

Cons

  • Some buyers wished they had made the cable longer
  • Some buyers said it was not as powerful as a petrol one

ConClusion

This compactor gets strong and consistent online reviews. As Geoff mentioned earlier, this is not the type of wacker that contractors or professionals will use. They use heavy duty petrol compactors that cost 3-4 times the price of this one.

If you are working on a project for a few weeks or months, then rather than hire one out, this is good enough to be able to do a good job.

We found this excellent video of this saw, it's only around 5 minutes so it is worth a watch as it goes into some detail.

To Buy or Not to Buy!

This is a reasonably expensive purchase so you might think, do I actually need this tool? Will I just use it for one job then never need it again?

For me it comes down to a couple of simple questions and a bit of maths. How much does it cost to hire one of these, how long do you need it for and if its outside, do you think the weather will hold? You need to keep in mind that if it rains you wont get the job finished if a rented one has to go back. Or you will have to pay extra to keep it longer. What if it rains for a week!

Also if you are hiring one then you will need a trailer or van twice, to pick it up then return it.

Once you know the answer to these questions then you can decide whether or not this compacter is a good buy for you. A lot of buyers thought it was cheaper than renting but more importantly that it took a lot of pressure off them and let them complete the job in their own time.
