Makita DTD152Z Impact Driver Review

Thanks for taking your time to read our review of the Makita DTD152Z Impact Driver.  Below we have included a full and detailed review of this highly popular choice for UK buyers.

From the price, you can tell this is the entry level model from Makita and at £55 I can see why it is a very big seller. Definitely a real bargain.

Keep in mind that this model only takes an 18V battery so you might have to buy a battery and charger if you don't already have one.

I have done a lot of reviews on these impact drivers and although the Makita models always rate very highly, I don't think I have seen any other model getting as good reviews with as many users.

Makita DTD152Z  - Key Features

Value for Money

For me, the biggest plus for this tool is the price. I know you still have to buy a battery and charger, if you dont already have some other Makita tools, but many people will be able to use their existing battery.

Even at that, it's still an amazing price for a premium tool that is top quality and likely to last a lifetime.

Power

There is plenty of power in this tool and it will do most jobs for amatuer and professional users alike. It's not rated for scaffolding but you would hardly expect it to be at this price.

We found that it was very easy on the battery and we were able to do 3 seperate jobs and around 500 screws with just one charge.

Several users have said they tightened and loosened wheel nuts and I guess this is a question that many people will ask, so yes, it can do wheel nuts!

A very quick video review

We have looked over all the video reviews and found this great short presentation on this Makita power tool. It gives you an instant idea of what to expect as well as telling you all the features and spec in and easy to understand format.

I hope you enjoy watching it as I always think its much better to see a tool in action rather than just reading about it or seeing pictures. This guy is particularly good at explaining the features of this impact driver and he is well known for demonstrating Makita tools.

The Makita Brand

The Makita brand sell a wide range of cordless tools and tools for the construction and demolition industries. They also sell some garden machinery. They sell their tools through various stores in the UK including B&Q, Screwfix, Cromwell, Jewson, Buildbase, Bradfords, Wickes and more.

Their HQ is in Japan. Their Telford manufacturing plant is the only full-production facility for power tools in the UK and has been successfully running construction on many of our top line cordless power tools since 1991.

Makita believe that for a good tool you need a good motor, and Makita makes every effort to make sure their motors are of the best quality. They use premium grade steel to produce armature shafts and gears, and only steel of the highest grade is used.

They also complete quality control tests on each and every, machine that leaves their manufacturing plants. I have a Makita magnetic bit holder that I use when I am putting in a lot of screws and I can't recommend this type of accessory highly enough. Everybody should have one of these tools. Just makes any job so much easier.

Our Verdict on the Makita DTD152Z?

We think this is an excellent tool and it is definitely superb value for money at around £50 - £60.

165Nm of power is really plenty for most applications and I expect this model would have ample power for 90% of users.

If you haven't had one of these drivers before then I would suggest you give them a try. Most people wonder how they ever did without them as they are so much better than a standard drill.
