Makita DJV182Z - 3 Key Features

Brushless Motor

The brushless motor efficiently uses energy to match torque and rpm to the changing demand of the application, and eliminates carbon brushes, enabling the motor to run cooler and efficiently for longer life.

Most tradesmen will agree that the tools with this type of brushless motors are well worth spending that bit extra on.

Variable Speed Control

The Jigsaw has a variable speed control dial to enable the user to match the speed to the application for optimal cutting performance in a variety of materials.

This gives you total control over the speed of your cut and lets you take a bit more time on more delicate cutting jobs.

Dust Extraction

Once you have any type of tool of this nature, that has dust extraction, you will never go back. This model is particularly good as catching the dust and makes and job much less like work.

I dont mind most jobs but I really hate the cleaning up afterwards, especially if it takes nearly as long as the job itself.

A very quick video review

We have looked over all the video reviews and found this great short presentation on this Makita power tool. It gives you an instant idea of what to expect as well as telling you all the features and spec in and easy to understand format.

I hope you enjoy watching it as I always think its much better to see a tool in action rather than just reading about it or seeing pictures. This guy is particularly good at explaining the features of the jigsaw and he is well known for demonstrating Makita tools.

Their HQ is in Japan. Their Telford manufacturing plant is the only full-production facility for power tools in the UK and has been successfully running construction on many of our top line cordless power tools since 1991.

Makita believe that for a good tool you need a good motor, and Makita makes every effort to make sure their motors are of the best quality. They use premium grade steel to produce armature shafts and gears, and only steel of the highest grade is used.

They also complete quality control tests on each and every, machine that leaves their manufacturing plants.

What Makes a Good Cordless Jigsaw?

Tool Only Option

Most manufacturers make "tool only" options which is the tool sold without a battery and charger. A tool only option does make the jigsaw cheaper however you do need to have a compatible battery and charger.

Manufacturer

Ideally you should buy a cordless jigsaw from a good quality and well respected brand. That way you know the tool is made of good quality and also has good customer service and most importantly you can get parts should you need them. The best known brands are Makita, Dewalt, and Bosch.

Power

The power is shown in volts on a cordless jigsaw, and the capacity of the battery is measured in Ampere Hours (Ah) As a general rule the higher the Ah rating the better. Ah is a measure of capacity and the minimum for a jigsaw is 3.0Ah. You can also get 4.0 Ah and 5.0 Ah which will last longer

Jigsaw Speed

Speed is measured in rotations per minute (RPM) and will either be a fixed speed or a variable speed. The much better choice is variable speed as it gives you much better control. It also allows you to use the right speed depending on what material you are cutting, such as soft woods, hard woods and metal. You also want a longer stroke length and anything over 200 mm is a great choice.

Bevel Cuts

Better quality jigsaws have a tilting base plate which will allow you to make bevel cuts.

Other Features

Other features that are an advantage to have is an LED work light, a good dust extraction system, electronic motor protection, and tool free blade changing.

Our Verdict on the Makita DJV182Z?

Not cheap, but do you really want a cheap jigsaw? This is a tool that I don't need to use everyday but is very useful for many tasks.

The DJV182 model is top of the range for me and is easily one of the best models that I have used.
