Thanks for taking your time to read our information on the best multi tools that are currently available on the UK market. If you have never used one of these before, then honestly, you don't know what you are missing.

What is a Multi Tool Used For?

If you need to do a bit of cutting, grinding, polishing, grout removing or sharpening but only want to buy one tool? Then this is the job for you.

The best multi-tools are great for all of the above. They are made to be handy for all jobs, to get into small or awkward places and to help you out when your bigger tools can't get into an area.

Basically they have so many uses that you will want this right at the top of your tool bag. I mostly use it for cutting and it will easily go through wood, metal, plastic or most often I use it for plasterboard. It will even do for tiles.

Multi-Tool Buying Tips

These buying tips should help narrow down your choices, and we think they are worth a quick read.

Tip 1 - Accessories

Have a think on what you are going to use this tool for and make sure you buy the correct accessories from the start. Some of the models come with a selection, which is great, but the higher end models are just a bare tool so you will need to get know what you want.

I would advise that you start with a range of cutting and sanding types, then see how you go. You will be surprised at how often you will turn to this tool and keep in mind there are around 60 different attachments available for most of these multi tools.

Tip 2 - Corded or Battery

I am very tempted to tell you to always go for the battery type model. Usually you are in a tight area and the cord tends to get in the way, or if you are a tradesman you will know that the battery types are much handier if you are out on a job.

Home owers or DIYers might be as happy with the corded versions if thay are just using them around the house and have easy access to sockets and extension leads though I have come to hate that trailing cord when I am doing an awkward job.

Tip 3 - Price

These tools range from £30 up to around £150 and obviously there will be a reason for that. It just depends what type of job you are doing and how often you will need to use it.

The cheapest models are great for around the house but you can't expect them to be used for heavy work or to last a long time if you are using them every day. The cheaper Bosch model is excellent for home use but if you are going to be a regular user then i would suggest you spend a bit extra.

A very quick video review

We have looked over all the video reviews and found this great short presentation on the Makita model. It gives you an instant idea of what to expect as well as telling you the best way to go about this

I hope you enjoy watching it as I always think its much better to see something in action rather than just reading about it or seeing pictures. This guy is particularly good at explaining the technique and he offers some very useful tips.

Still Undecided?

If you are still not sure, then remember our recommendation for the best multi-tool is the Makita DTM51Z Multi-Tool.
