How to Use Coral Paint Brushes

Decorating Guidelines

Getting a great finish that looks totally professional is the aim of anyone who paints their interior. In any job, large or small, brush strokes look terrible and we all want to to have as smooth a finish as possible.

A big factor in doing a great job is the brush. Paints vary in many ways and the first thing to look at is matching the paint to the brush

It is also very important to prepare the surface well . Fix all cracks, holes or blemishes and level the surface. Remove all dust and clean the surface down totally before you start to paint.
Preparation is nearly more important than the actual painting.

If you’re painting wood, you should paint in the same direction as the wood grain. If you brush against the grain you will get a poor finish.

Choose the type of paint carefully as Matt paint is the easiest to apply and if you can use it then we would suggest that it should be your first choice. It levels well and shows the least brush marks.

What are the best brushes for gloss paint?

Gloss paint is one of the hardest paints to apply with a brush. It will highlight any marks and can leave really deep brush strokes. Luckily it takes a long time to dry and you can go over any parts that you are not happy with.

Always go for a  brush with fine bristles that can hold a good amount of paint and we prefer natural bristles over synthetic ones.

What are the best brushes for acrylic paint?

Acrylic paint is water-based and we would always use a brush with synthetic bristles. Natural bristles will quickly absorb the water, making the paint thicker, harder to apply and more likely to leave brush marks.

Again matt paints are the easiest to apply and you should be using a mid sized brush with fine bristles. You can read about the best synthetic paint brushes by clicking here.

How to clean paint brushes after use

Cleaning your brushes after use is easy and should be done straight away. Most water based paint will wash off the brush very easily but take your time and make sure all the paint is removed.

We would always rinse the brush with running water until the water comes out clean. Give it a few shakes, then wrap the brush in plastic or paper.

Oil-based paint is not quite so handy. You will  have to use an some type of solvent, such as white spirit. It is the most popular and it's what i would use myself.

Half fill a jar and soak the brush in it, stirring to remove paint from the bristles. Move the brush to a new jar and repeat the procedure.

When you are sure all the paint is gone the rinse the brush in warm water, give it a quick dry and wrap the brush for storage. I tend to keep individual brushes wrapped in plastic bags.

In conclusion

These Coral brushes are an excellent buy and we can highly recommend them. If you aren't sure what brush you need then keep investigating. You might want to look at our section on Best Synthetic Paint Brushes for a bit more information.
