Best Circular Saw Blade Reviews

Thanks for taking your time to read our reviews on the best blade for a circular saw that are currently available on the United Kingdom marketplace. Blades are made by most of the leading tool manufacturers and you can also buy blades from other brands.

One important thing to know is that you can use any brand of blade in your circular saw as long as it is the right size. You don't have to buy the same brand of blade as you saw brand. Some people do prefer to do this though as they are assured of it being the right one for their saw.

Circular Saw blades cost anything between £12-25 depending on the brand and the type of blade you want to use.

A circular saw blade is just a metal disk with teeth, and there is a hole in the centre of it that is called a bore. This bore hole is used to attach the blade to the saw and you can also buy adapter rings (reduction rings) to adjust the bore size on your saw.

Below we have included the top 5 circular saw blades based on buyer ratings. After those we have included a full buying guide on these blades.

Circular Saw Blade Buying Tips

Just below we have included a range of very useful tips when buying a circular saw blade. When you buy a circular saw it usually comes with a blade. On your saw there will also be a guard that protects your hand from the blade.

It is important to consider a few things when buying a replacement blade.

Circular Saw Blade Size Specifications

When buying a circular saw blade the most important thing to understand is that the size you buy fits your saw. There are three sizes to consider

  • The diameter of the blade (measured in mm)
  • The bore size of the blade (measured in mm) - the bore size is the small hole in the centre of the blade and that needs to match the bore size of your circular saw
  • The height of the blade - from the centre of the blade to just under the blade guard

The quickest way to find that information is to look at the blade that came with your saw and on it you will find both the bore size and the diameter. If those markings have worn off, then just remove the blade and measure it with a ruler.

You could also look up the circular saw manual online as the blade information will also be in there.

The height is also important as you will always want the blade to be protected by the guard.

Circular Saw Blade Sizes

We have listed the circular saw blade sizes below.

  • 85 x 15 mm (for mini saws and cutters)
  • 160 x 20 mm
  • 165 x 20 mm (popular)
  • 184 x 16 mm
  • 185 x 20 mm (most popular)
  • 190 x 30 mm
  • 210 x 25.4 mm (Evolution blades)
  • 210 x 30 mm
  • 216 x 30 mm
  • 250 x 30 mm
  • 255 x 30 mm

Adapter O - Rings

You can also buy adapter rings, sometimes called O-rings and these allow you to adapt the bore size of the blade. For example if your saw had a 30 mm bore, you can fit a 20 mm adapter and then use 20 mm sized blades.

Number of Teeth on a Circular Saw Blade

Once you have got your size right it is time to understand why the number of teeth on a blade is worth your consideration.

The general rule of thumb is that the more teeth on the blade, then the finer and neater cut you will get.

A blade with 40 teeth is fine for cutting soft wood and general wood working. However if you were working on some expensive hard wood, then an 80 teeth blade would give you a much neater cut.

You should however also be aware that more teeth on a circular saw blade will create a greater load on your circular saw. Typically this will make the saw run slightly slower.

Types of Teeth on a Blade

The most common type of teeth are known as Alternate Top Bevel Teeth (ATB). These are the most common and the most popular ideal for cross cuts and also for finishing wood and veneered plywood

Negative Hook Angle Blades

These are mainly used on mitre and radial saws and have less kick back

Triple Chip Grind Teeth

The teeth are bevelled and the chamfered teeth make the rough cut and the flat teeth finish the cut.

The angle of the teeth is also reduced and that reduces tear out. That makes this type of blade great for all finishing work.

Notches on a Blade

All high quality blades will have notches cut out of the blade. This allows the blade to expand as it heats up while cutting.

As a result this stops the blade from warping. A warped blade will ruin your cut and is dangerous to use.

Blade Gullets

Gullets are the spaces between the teeth. These spaces allow the sawdust to be removed quickly during the cutting process.
