We prefer metal bases as they will just last a great deal longer, more expensive initially, but will pay dividends in the longer term

Power Source

Gas Powered runs the motor powerfully and cuts various metals effectively. These are built for heavy duty engineering type work and they are expensive, noisy but are extremely powerful.

Corded electric powered are the most popular as they are lightweight and easy to maneuver around, just be careful you don't cut the cord !

Cordless battery powered models are becoming more and more popular and they work off a rechargeable battery. They work well for light duty tasks but this type of saw needs a lot of power so they wouldn't be my number one choice.
