Milwaukee M12 FIW38-0 4933464612 Impact Wrench, 12V Li-Ion, 3/8

This is a 12V, 3/8 drive model that comes as tool only

Up to 339 Nm of maximum torque

Brushless motor delivers more power in a more compact size

Individual battery cell monitoring optimises tool run time and ensures long term pack durability

Has the 4-Mode drive control of the more expensive models and comes with auto-shut off mode offers the user precise control

Bright LED workspace illumination

This is the most popular model in the range and is also the highest rated by customers. That's because Milwaukee have taken a 12V, 3/8" drive impact wrench, have made it extremely cheap, yet given it 339Nm of torque. It's actually hard to believe they have managed this but it's a brilliant, powerful, light tool that's an absolute bargain for what you are getting. Well worth a consideration.

Milwaukee M18FHIWF12-0 M18 Fuel Impact Wrench 1/2" Drive

An 18V, 1/2" drive model that's ‎47.2 x 36.1 x 12.9 cm; 3 Kilograms

Comes with brushless motor that can generate a massive, nut busting 1897Nm of torque. That should be enough for any professional user and it tightens to 1354Nm

Has 4 mode drive control 0 to 550/1400/1750-750RPM and 0 to 950/1750/2100/2100IPM

LED light included

Works with all Milwaukee M18 batteries

At 3Kg this feels quite light in your hand yet still tremendously powerful. It's an absolute pleasure to use and although it is quite expensive, I would say it's well worth the price if you are using an impact wrench regularly and really it's the best in the range.

Milwaukee MILM18BIW120 Impact Wrench

92% buyer satisfaction from over 400+ customer reviews

This is a 12V, 1/2 drive model that comes as tool only

It's a compact entry level model thats very light at just over 1.6Kg and measures 155m in length

Again I would say this is aimed at the home or DIY user as it puts out around 240Nm which wouldn't do wheel nuts or scaffolding

Works with all Milwaukee M12 batteries and actually it lasts pretty well if you aren't working it too hard

Definitely not a model for the hardened professional but still a very handy tool that's very light and compact. Would easily be used in a workshop or for smaller jobs.

M18 ONEIWF12-0 Fuel™ ONE-Key™ 1/2in FR Impact Wrench

92% buyer satisfaction from over 50+ customer reviews

This is the entry level 18V model that is 1/2" drive

It will put out up to 300Nm of torque

Measures 18.2 x 11 x 24 cm and weighs in at 1.4 Kilograms

Comes with the standard brushless motor

Apparently you can connect to it by bluetooth and set up profiles in the settings. Not sure I would ever use this

Also has the normal LED light

There's not much to say about this model. If you only need up to 300Nm then this is a very good model that is pretty reasonably priced. It's also very light so that might be a consideration for you.

Milwaukee M18FHIWF12-0 18V 1/2" Impact Wrench with 2 x 5.0Ah Batteries & Charger

94% buyer satisfaction from over 50+ customer reviews

Complete kit with 2 X 5ah batteries and charger

An 18V, 1/2" drive model that's ‎47.2 x 36.1 x 12.9 cm; 3 Kilograms

Comes with brushless motor that can generate a massive, nut busting 1897Nm of torque. That should be enough for any professional user and it tightens to 1354Nm

Has 4 mode drive control 0 to 550/1400/1750-750RPM and 0 to 950/1750/2100/2100IPM

LED light included

Sometimes it's cheaper to buy a kit like this than to buy everything seperately. It's well worth checking as most of the major manufacturers do deals like this when you are starting off new to their ranges. A 5Ah battery is around £60 ( you get 2 in this deal ) and a Milwaukee battery charger is around £40 so that should give you an idea. So on this particular model, buying as a pack will save you over £100.

18V vs 12V Option?

There is actually big a difference in power between a 12 Volt model and an 18 Volt model, and worth mentioning that the 18 Volt is more popular with the professionals.

The 12V will be a more compact and lighter option and that suits many people. The 18V is more popular as more people tend to already own a branded 18V battery and charger. It is also much more powerful in most cases.

You can easily check out the different option on our Best Milwaukee Battery section.

What is Good Torque for an Impact Driver?

The ideal torque for impact drivers can be anything between 160-2000 Newton metres depending on what sort of job you are doing.

Torque is measured in Newton Metres (Nm), and is the force that causes an object to rotate. This shows how powerful an impact driver is and the higher the number in newton metres the more twisting force it will deliver.

Cordless drills on the other hand will have torques of anything between 4-35Nm. From this you can see that impact drivers are designed for longer screws or nuts where more torque is required. Things like scaffolding and wheel nuts require a very high torque foe safety reasons.

A very quick video review

We have looked over all the video reviews and found this great short presentation on these tools. It gives you an instant idea of what to expect as well as telling you all the features and spec in and easy to understand format.

I hope you enjoy watching it as I always think its much better to see a tool in action rather than just reading about it or seeing pictures. This guy is particularly good at explaining the features and he is well known for demonstrating tools.

I hope this has been some help to you but if you're still not sure then head on over to our Best Impact Wrench section that looks at all the major manufacturers and what they are offering.
